Coworking

A Global Movement

Coworking is work and meeting space that is shared by a community of individuals, businesses and startups.

The popularity of coworking space is escalating quickly around the world as today’s workforce trends towards a higher proportion of independent contractors, freelancers and small business owners. By 2020, more than 40% of the US workforce will be so-called contingent workers, according to a study conducted by software company Intuit in 20101. Coworking facilities have become a sought after gathering place for this new workforce which is why they are also a target destination for businesses who are looking to tap into this growing talent pool.

From 2012-2013 in the United States, coworking memberships increased 117% and the number of coworking facilities increased by 83%.2 Statistics show that communities under 50,000 people are the second largest area of growth for new coworking locations, right after large metro markets3.

The WORKUP team believes our area is poised to embrace the kind of collaboration and innovation that coworking will bring. As identified by Willmar’s recent Vision 2040 report, a coworking facility will enhance our business community, support area entrepreneurs and become an engine of innovation.
